Oscar's Journey - Part One
Marilyn Petzold and I arranged to meet Jeannee Brave in Columbia, MO to pick up Oscar, an 8 month old Sammy that had been turned in by his owner in Independence, MO. We were helping NISA to transport Oscar to Chicago where his new owner was waiting.
We were a little late in starting for Columbia and very late arriving. There had been a horrible accident on I-70 about five miles east of the exit where we were meeting Jeannee and Oscar. We wound up sitting in traffic on I-70 for about 1 1/2 hours while the police cleared the scene. Meanwhile, Jeannee and Oscare had lots of time for walks and treats out in front of the Cracker Barrel. I think Oscar also acted as the unofficial "Greeter" to the people stopping for lunch. We did get there and met Oscar. He's beautiful, sweet and very affectionate. He's going to be a nice, big guy. Off we go on the next leg of the transport to get Oscar to a new home near Chicago. We drove back to St. Louis and up to Pontoon Beach, IL to meet up with Kim Singer, one of our volunteers. She drove Oscar to Springfield, IL to meet with his new owner. All's well that ends with a Sammy on the way to his forever home. Through out it all, Oscar remained calm and collected. Sue Kabler |
