I received a wonderful card, along with a $50.00 donation to SFSR, from the placement coordinator at the Maui Humane Society. She is very appreciative of the efforts and concern of everyone she worked with in trying to save Stormy. I wanted to share this because it shows so well how what we do can potentially impact far beyond any one dog we might try to save.

I scanned Lorraine's card and a photo of Stormy that she sent me (he was shaved when he entered the shelter). If you'd like, you can view them at http://www.samoyedrescue.net. Lorraine gave me permission to share her words.

Dear Beverly--
Thank you again for all your efforts with Stormy. Working with your rescue has been such a joy--it will make me always reach out to rescues in the future. Even though Stormy could not be helped, know that some other dog will benefit because your group taught me so very much. I guess Stormy had a mission in life after all.
Please take my donation in the spirit it is given. It is not much, but I hope it multiplys [sic] for you.
Everyone in Samoyed Rescue has been a joy to deal with.

Much Aloha & Mahalo,
Lorraine Askam

Such a wonderful gesture. Wish things would have turned out differently for Stormy, but he at least provided an opportunity for that shelter to see how rescue can work well.

And it wasn't just SFSR that Lorraine was referring to, but all of Sammy rescue. When I emailed to ask if it was ok to share her card with other rescuers, she replied:

>Please feel free to share your card with anyone you would like. It is
>really meant to be shared with anyone involved. Stormy will always be a
>very precious lesson in rescue to me.
>
>Again, it was a privilege and joy to work with all of you. From Lisa in
>Colorado to Sylvia with United Air Lines. You are all my heroes.
>
>Aloha,
>Lorraine

And, BTW, Lorraine actually meant Janet in Colorado. Lisa is one of our SFSR board members who Lorraine also spoke to. Janet, representing national rescue, helped by fielding the contact from Lorraine originally, and initially coordinating with Lorraine when I was too overwhelmed with local rescue stuff, until I was able to take it on.

So this thank-you belongs to all of us!
