Have you adopted a dog from a rescue or a shelter? Tell us how you found each other!!!!

Sorry, it's along story. About 5 or 6 years ago we decided that we wanted to add a second sammy to our life. I went up and met w/Ann Gannon to see Hubuki, an owner surrender. He was HUGE. Probably about 25 - 30 lbs overweight. He was a loveable dog with a cute waddle. After meeting him I was put back by the idea of adding another dog and the effect it would have on Tasha. I posted to the list and received countless emails on how much I would enjoy a second sam and how Tasha really wouldn't change and that it probably would bring out more in her. I called back Ann and arranged for the pickup. I've never regretted it. He QUICKLY lost the weight with regular walks and a normal feeding schedule (and normal amounts w/no excessive treats). He's such a happy dog and brings so much joy to our lives. We are now expecting another addition. A baby boy in two months. Hubuki grew up with kids, but this will be a change for him. I'm sure just like Tasha adapted (God rest her soul), Hubuki will adapt and we'll see more family-like qualities from him. I never like to talk about losing a dog in the future, but I'm sure that we will once again be contacting rescue in the future (but hopefully not for some time to come - don't take that wrong, I just want to hang onto Hubuki for a lot longer).

Your description of Hukubi sounds a lot like a dog we just placed named Polo. He was 110 lbs coming into rescue! Sooooo overweight, the poor guy. But happy as can be. He's the dog in my avatar when I post on this BB. Big happy face! A real joy!

We have a rescue Sammy and a Sammy mix that we adopted after fostering. Mary was a stray. We figured she was about 8-9 years old or so when she came in. She's not the smartest dog in the pack, but she's happy, happy, happy! After we were fostering her for several weeks, Mary bloated. Fortunately, she survived. But after going through that with her, we decided she wasn't going anywhere!

Vergil is our Sammy/Borzoi mix. He's a total goofball. He has the body shape of a Borzoi (aka Russian Wolfhound), but with long white hair and the personality of a goofy male Samoyed. Vergil, named for the Roman poet, was a physical and behavioral mess when we took him in. But with work and patience, he's blossomed into a wonderful boy who brings tremendous joy to us every day!

Hi,
I have three Sams and want to be Sams. I sometimes wish they weren't as smart as they are, since we had to change all the door knobs in our house because they kept helping themselves to whatever they want.

Loki came from the Cottonwood Humane Society and is now around 3 years old. BIg guy, really big and not overweight. Just not all pure sam. As big as he is, he is super agile and can jump like a spring. Somehow, he is put together all correct.

Sasha came from our local animal control and is super aggresive to other dogs. We tried to place her twice (I was fostering her) before I said that is that and she stayed. My aspiration is to be as smart as she is some day. (Not going to happen!)

Chui also came from our local animal control with a leg that they described as atrophed. He wouldn't put any weight on his right front leg. When we first got him, if I left the room, he would literally scream. His leg got better and he is doing fine. I did catch him opening my kitchen cabinets the other day for a "peek see". And he did open my shower door the other day and dump a full gallon of dog shampoo on my carpet, but he is home to stay.
