I have a beautiful female Sammy named Pasha (AKA Pasha Siberian Starlight). She's going on six years old. She's very sociable and we're thinking of getting another Sammy or Northern breed like a Malamute or a Husky.
We live in the mountains near Lake Tahoe so there's plenty of room for play and lots of snow in the winter.
My question is should I get a male or a female? Should I avoid a much younger dog? She gets along very well with larger dogs - hates small dogs (rat dogs!!) - and loves to run and play with other large dogs.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Fran

Hi Fran,
Welcome to our Forum. As a general rule of thumb and from my experience with having multiple Sammies with me over the years. I'd say mature male and mature female tend to get along easier than two females. Excuse the expression but two females together can be real "bitches."
I quess I'd better qualify this a little bit. I've had multiple females and they have gotten along just great. I've also had males and females who have been best buddies. I'd say it depends on two things. First, how "alpha" is Pasha?? It usually takes longer for Alpha dogs to get used to a new member of the household. Second, much of the adjustment to a new family furkid depends on you the pack leader. If you are willing to be a strong pack leader with consistant direction then either male or female might work.
I'd recommend in adopting a more mature Sammie, take your time and let Pasha help guide you too.
Best,
