The Samoyed Health Foundation (HF) has been working to set up a data collection project about Samoyed health. This project sounds amazing! I'm VERY excited about its potential, not only for breeders, but for owners and rescuers as well.
The HF is going to set up a web site that will be a focal point for information about disorders that affect Sammies. There are about 60 disorders, which apparently is quite low and makes Samoyeds one of the more robust breeds! The HF is looking for volunteers to select a disorder and then to accumulate and submit information about that disorder. That info will be reviewed by experts before posting.
It's all done when and as you have time.
I want to encourage non-breeders and non-show people (rescuers & owners) to consider signing up for a health topic because we have a very different perspective on Samoyed health. It would be good to have a variety of people involved with this. Please distribute this info as you see fit. Volunteers do NOT have to be SCA members or Americans.
From Pam Barbe, who is helping coordinate this effort:
Each liaison (they do not have to be SCA members, just someone with an interest in the disorder) would have their own area [of the HF web site], where they would log in and put their information about their specific disorder. We have set up a yahoo group for the liaisons and will be coordinating with them how to organize the data - we actually have a template they can follow. In turn, each health liaison will be assigned to a reviewer who will check over the info and then publish it to the public website.
If you know of anyone interested in taking any of the following topics (those with astericks have already been spoken for as of 5-6-06), please let Pam know (http://www.mirage-samoyeds.com/).
