Hi All,
I think this is a marvelous place to find out the inside facts from the people in the know--the NSR BoG and all the affiliates.
Anyone should feel free to as any reasonable question here and get a reasonable answer.
Besides, we just may get to know each other a little better. I'll be dropping in a lot to field questions.
Feel free to post here :mail1:

Well, Jim, you gave permission to crosspost, so I am. Thanks so much for taking the time to get input from the NSR Board as well as the affiliates who wished to help with refining what you put out there. You really do speak FOR NSR. :) I like your style!

Permission Granted to crosspost to any list or individual you feel it is important--
From National Samoyed Rescue,
There are questions coming from people on public lists and they deserve to get answers. Members of the NSR board and the NSR affiliate rescues have responded to many of these questions in the past on public lists. In view of the fact that many of these discussions on public lists had gotten caught in a confusing and incomplete flurry of multiple list posting the NSR board and the affiliates would rather not respond to questions on public lists.
Nonetheless, people's questions and concerns need to be addressed. Therefore, the NSR board and the affiliates would like to invite you to participate in a question and answer Forum at--http://www.samoyedrescue.org/forums/index.php. Anyone is welcome to ask any question or voice any concern on policy, procedure, networking or the future of NSR. You do need to register on the Forums to post on the "About National Samoyed Rescue" topic by first going to the Forum Index and on the top tool bar look for Log In. Click on that and it will automatically take you through a short log in process.
To get to the "About National Samoyed Rescue" discussion, go to-- http://www.samoyedrescue.org/forums/index.php (http://www.samoyedrescue.org/forums/index.php). Scroll down until (on the left hand side) you see "Site Navigation." Under that click on "NSR Forums." On the next page you click on "About National Samoyed Rescue" and there you are. Feel free to ask away. We hope this will provide a focused place where questions can be answered to your satisfaction by any and all of the NSR board members and the affiliates. Since the forum discussions are archived and this topic is viewable to the public, others can go here in the future to get answers to their questions as well.
As always feel free to contact the NSR board directly at nsrboard@samoyedrescue.org at any time.
Best,
Jim Becklund

Well, if no one is going to ask questions yet, I'll address some of the questions I've been reading or hearing about from other lists. Please feel free to crosspost anything that *I* post in the About National Samoyed Rescue section of this forum. (This does not apply to anyone else's posts, unless others give their personal permission.)

If you do crosspost, send my entire message. If you want to use only parts of what I write, please ask my permission first as I want to be sure I'm not being taken out of context.

Thanks!
Beverley

One thing I've heard said a lot is that NSR's referral process allows dogs to fall through the cracks. The recent situation with a 10 year old from Virginia (?) is used as an example of this.

It is important to note that this dog was in no immediate danger of being put down. That is an important aspect of all of this. This senior boy was already taken in by a rescue group that was contacting Samoyed rescuers for placement assistance. Yes, it took about 3 days for the information to get passed on to non-NSR groups. But one cannot assume that a rescuer would take 3 days to pass along info in an emergency situation just because it took that long in a non-emergency situation. If we spend our effort responding to every situation as if it were an emergency, we'll have little left to give when a real emergency requires extra effort from us.

In addition, as of last week, none of the local non-NSR rescues had offered assistance to this dog since receiving the information about this dog.

When an urgent situation has come up, NSR and the affiliates have moved quickly. I was personally involved with one such situation with a puppy mill dog from Missouri, where several rescue groups from different regions pulled together, with NSR's assistance, to rescue a dog. (This was written up in the Winter issue of Samoyed Quarterly.) I know there are other such examples, and I hope that other NSR affiliates will share some of those stories here.

The Missouri puppy mill dog you talked about is just one example of NSR affiliates jumping in to help a rescue Samoyed in need. The example that strikes me the most is Trooper who again was in need (not desperate) and the local group was contacted repeatedly with no response. NSR affiliates who were over six hundred miles away stepped forward to get him in to their system and adopted out. It's kinda sad, however, because the closet Samoyed rescue was less than an hour away and they never responded to any communication. Bottom line is, if there is a case of a Sammie in need NSR affiliates have stepped forward to do what needed to be done in a timely manner as judged by the situation.
