Since many of you are new to the format here with using forums and gallery, I thought we should have a thread about tips just on how to use them, how to navigate, etc. I've been sharing them with the affiliates, but they also should be where everyone can see.
If you have a question or find something frustrating, ask it here, or if you have a tip of your own to share! :)

The gallery we've recently installed integrates with the forums. That means that anyone registered here has their own gallery automatically. To get there, you can click on the "NSR Galleries" link in the blue bar at the top of each page. Your username and password are the same should you wish to login there.
When uploading pictures, anything uploaded to another gallery (say Beverley A. uploaded a picture to SFSR's gallery) it will show up in the users own gallery as well (so it would show up in SFSR's gallery as well as Bev's).
Test it out, click around on things...just see what all it'll do! :) And, ask if you've got questions.

Ever get buried in the forums (or the gallery) and can't find your way out? It can get confusing if you make posts with the advanced reply. Hitting the back button gets old very fast!
Good news is that there's a quick way to jump back out with one click! It's a 'bread crumb trail' that's at the top of whatever page you're at. I don't know it's real name, but that's how I've always thought of it.
You can click on any of the blue links to jump to that level. Next time you're in the forums, try it out. :)
I've attached a screenshot of the 'breadcrumb trail' -- you'll need to log in to be able to see it, so if you aren't registered, register now! :D

Now that we have the gallery up and running, if you aren't registered or signed in, go here to see the 'bread crumb trail' screen shot.

(This is also posted in "Off-Topic Discussions")
A few people have asked me how to post new items on the Forums. So, I'll give it a try.
First thing to know is terminology:
Forum Home: The web page that you access when you click on the Forums link from the NSR home page. The URL is http://www.samoyedrescue.org/forums/index.php. It shows the Webinar notice, some of the recent postings, information about how many people are accessing the Forums, etc.
All Forums: The web pages that contain the actual forum postings. The URL is http://www.samoyedrescue.org/forums/forums.php. It's accessible by clicking All Forums in the link bar near the top of any Forums page.
Now comes the tricky terminology. I hope I get this right, and someone please correct me if it's wrong.
Forum: Each of the major discussion areas is a Forum. They're in the dark blue strips, such as "National Samoyed Rescue Forums", "NSR Webinars", and each affiliate rescue has it's own forum area.
Topics: Within each forum you'll see a list of Topics. Examples of Topics: "General Discussion", "Training", "Webinars-Open Forum".
Threads: Threads are the separate discussions within each Topic. So, if you click on the Topic "General Discussion", you'll see a list of threads, such as "NSR News", "SCA 2006 National Specialty", etc. The name under the thread title is the person who started that thread. The Last Post column shows who last responded to that thread.
Discussion Threads are grouped under Topics, which are grouped under Forums. The idea is to allow people to pick and choose which topics they're interested in and to be able to ignore whatever they aren't interested in.
So, the thread is the level of actual discussion. It is a thread that you'll post or reply to. To post a new thread, click on the New Thread button on the upper left area of the page. To read an existing thread, open the thread by clicking on the title of the thread in the list. To send a response to a thread, open the thread and click the Post Reply button on the upper left area of the page.
I hope this helps.
