For the last year the NSR Board has been discussing and planning to start the long awaited series of Webinars.
The time has finally arrived. NSR's first Webinar will be "The Importance of Validating Rescues." The speaker will be Mary Beth Duerler who is the coordinator for Responsible Pet Ownership Alliance (RPOA-Texas).
To make this as easy as possible for Mary Beth and everyone who participates this Webinar and all Webinars will be a question only affair. The Webinar will be a week and a half long process beginning with an intro and Bio on Mary Beth on Wednesday. Those who are interested may submit questions starting on Thursday and running through the following Wednesday. Mary Beth with write out her answers to your questions. We will wrap this up with "members comments" on Friday.
This is tentatively planned to begin on Wed., Feb. 8th but do to the planning time frame we may start it on Feb. 15th. More on that later.
Everyone is encouraged to participate in this very timely Webinar as well as posting it to your volunteers and to any lists you feel it is appropriate. Remember, this topic is not just Samoyed Rescue related and any individual is welcome. Other breed rescues are also welcome to attend.
NSR is always looking for topic suggestions since Webinars will hopefully be set up for every two months.

The webinar will happen here in the forums, so if you have been considering registering, please do so soon! An email address will be set up to receive questions on this topic once the final details are set into place.

I am soooo excited about this first Webinar. I spent two hours on the phone before Christmas with Mary Beth. She is ready to go on this, 'cause RPOA has spent a lot of time and has lots of experience in the entire process from checking out Rescue's applications to setting up relationships with animal care givers (ie--shelters and humane societies). Texas is a pretty big state and their goal is to get all rescues (variety of species) on board and able to do what Rescues do with a minimal amout of BS.
Once the email is set up we can rock and roll on this. Spread the word. It is open to EVERYONE. I hope we can spend some time with this on the affiliates phone conference. Thoughts??
Hi all,
I'm looking forward to the webinar topic also.
I'd like to suggest "recruiting and managing volunteers" as a future topic. Unfortunately, I can't suggest a guest speaker who is qualified in this field but maybe someone on the list will/can.
Back to the grindstone....

Hey Jean,
I've got your suggestion written down. I'll try to search for an appropriate "speaker."
Of course if anyone else has any suggestions on a speaker for this topic--feel free.

A little more on the webinar:
*You won't need to subscribe here to the forums (though you're very welcome to do so!), all you need to do is be able to get here to the forums. This webinar is going to be in the publicly viewed section.
*There will be an email posted where you can email your questions for our speaker. Those questions will be compiled and our speaker will answer them. Our speaker limit answers to 2 (two) questions a day - so there will be a total of 14 questions over the week.
*This is open to 'rescue' - any breed or species! This issue is one every type of rescue seems to be running into. Please spread the word to all!
*The webinar will start on February 15 with an introduction. Questions will be accepted starting that day and answers will be posted starting the next week.

We are about two weeks away from the first webinar! :) Feel free to pass the information on it along to other breed rescues, other species rescues, your vet, your local shelter, etc. This is really for anyone interested in rescue of any type as this is an issue all have in common.

The webinar on the Forums Aniversary has got to be the best present we can get. Hope there are lots of questions and lots of information being passed that will help all of us.

I'm kind of at a lost as to what questions to ask. I'm wondering if Mary Beth could give us an intro that we can then start asking questions from what she has presented. Not long, but it can start things rolling:?:

Today is the big day folks. Our very first of an ongoing series of Webinars. To have this happen during the week of our first Anniversary of the Forums is so great.
Later today Mary Beth will be sending me a brief bio on herself and a little history of the RPOA efforts in Texas. Many of you may have already heard me talk about RPOA in the past as the AKC Federation in Texas. One of their main focuses is enabling rescues of all breeds and species to work quickly and efficiently with "Animal Care Givers" (ie--humane societies, shelters and animal controls).
Get your questions together and send them to the addy on the Forum. They will be passed along to Mary Beth to be answered the following day. Remember, however, that there will be only 14 questions (2 a day) to be picked over the next week with a general discussion round a week from Friday.
We can also continue this thread amongst ourselves for as long as we have questions. Mary Beth is subscribed to the Forums so she will have an opportunity to "jump in" with comments in the future.

Janet,
I wanted to post a reply to Mary Beth's introduction and it said that
I couldn't. Am I in the right place? Can we all view the questions that
have been asked before?

I'm kind of confused too. I sent in a couple of questions yesterday. Were they received by someone? I sent it to webinar@samoyedrescue.org.

Yes, your email made it through. :) She'll be doing one post a day at this point (may be posted by samadmin unless she has time to post herself), and the 'formal forum' is closed to discussion so it doesn't get 'lost' in between, but you can post here, in this one, start new threads, etc.
So, if you want, go ahead and start a new thread on a topic.

I guess I just don't understand how to use this site. I assumed it would be a discussion of interest to all breed rescues. Where is the discussion? I guess I can't find it or figure out how to navigate this site,or maybe the forum hasn't started yet?:001_huh:

We're just getting underway. The initial post was sent yesterday, just an introduction. Questions sent in to webinar@samoyedrescue.org get to her and she will answer them in posts -- usually one a day.
As for the discussion part, that's what this forum is for. :) If there's a topic you'd like to discuss, then start a thread. Since we're just at the beginning here, nobody has yet started a discussion. Once we get going a bit more, it should become a bit clearer.

Glad to hear it. :D If you ever really get lost, that blue bar at the top is the key, just click on 'all forums' to get back to the beginning. ;)

Believe me, Gretchen, you're not alone in that! :001_huh: Took me some time to figure out how all this works, too. Just don't hesitate to continue asking if you have questions. We'll all do what we can to help.
Welcome to the forums!

How did RPOA decide what the criteria would be for your foster homes and for the rescue listings?
