Time and time again, we hear the public asking “How can I find a reputable breeder or rescue group?” Unless there is an organization that verifies that a certain standard of quality is met, the answer is, you must research the breeder / rescue yourself. While the NSR can not specifically “endorse” individual rescue groups, we can act as a type of organization similar to the Better Business Bureau, but only if we can verify and document that a member group has met this standard of quality.

Over the recent months, compromises have been made to the process of validation that will hopefully allow each and every individual or group of Samoyed Rescuers who wishes to be showcased to the Animal Care Community through National Recognition. A few of the more recent ones include:

*Originally, we had planned on a much more specific Code of Rescue Ethics. However, some rescuers expressed a strong dislike for specific language in the CORE, so concessions were made and our CORE is more vague, however, since our listing states that information has been verified, we were unable to accept the suggested compromise of requiring that only the CORE be signed.
* Extensive time was taken during the development of the application to repeatedly ask all rescuers on SRL for specific input concerning any of the questions on the application. Concerns were expressed about the question concerning breeder dogs. This was discussed and the question was made optional. It was not removed as this is yet one more means for a positive and glowing recommendation to include in the rescuer's file.
* It was expressed by rescuers that contacting veterinarians by phone to receive their opinion on the group applying was interruptive to their veterinarian. NSR has a form that can be sent to the vet instead, upon request of the rescuer.
* We are currently listing and referring to rescuers whom we have either been able to verify or “known” rescuers who have indicated to us that they are working to fill out the application. While on the surface, this may appear to be a contradiction, it isn’t. We realize rescuers are very busy and finding that hour or two to fill out the application with other members of their group can be difficult. Therefore, those who have expressed no opposition to completing the application and who have continued to communicate with us have been granted extra time. However that extra time does not extend forever and if these rescuers fail to fill out the application they will have to be removed from our referral list. For rescuers who have indicated they are not going to fill out the application, we have not made this compromise.
