Help For Your Samoyed
If you are reading this, it’s
likely that you are facing some of the most difficult decisions for you
and your Samoyed’s future. We may be able to help, and you
may have more options than you think. Our goal is to help you keep your
Samoyed or see that it has a happy life if you are not able to keep
him/her.
First, contact your breeder to see if he or she can
or will take your Samoyed back. It may be that you will only need them
to keep your dog for a short time (three months is a reasonable amount
of time) until you are able to find housing that will allow you to have
your dog. Going “home” to the dog’s breeder is not a bad thing.
Honestly, it’s like going home for your dog. It will remember its
breeder and the home where it was born. It is likely that some of the
dogs who were there at the time it was born may still be there. Dogs do
remember. Your breeder’s home or kennel will be a familiar place to your
dog and after a short period of adjustment, your Samoyed will be fine.
If you do not know whom your Samoyed’s breeder is or
if you have trouble returning the dog to the breeder, please contact
NSR. We may be able to provide foster housing for your Samoyed through
one of our affiliated rescues. If this is possible, you will be expected
to pay any bills incurred on behalf of your dog, such as medical needs
and food. Your dog will need to be current on all vaccinations and
heartworm negative. You will need to supply vet records and Heartworm
preventative for the duration of your dog’s stay. Your Samoyed should be
presented to your breeder or foster home clean, free of fleas, ticks and
worms.
If the cost of foster care makes that decision
prohibitive for your Samoyed, please contact NSR. One of our affiliated
rescues may have homes in your area that are looking to adopt. You are
not the first and you will not be the last person or family needing to
place your Samoyed into rescue. We understand what it’s like to have to
part with your Samoyed who has been a loving and much loved member of
your family. At this time, things may seem to be out of control but you
do still have control of the rest of your Samoyed’s life.
Please let us help insure that it is
exactly what is best for him or her. That’s rescue’s job and we
know how to do it
What Not To Do!!
Please, do NOT wait until the last minute to make this hard decision.
Please, do NOT take your Samoyed to an animal shelter or pound.
Please, do NOT give the dog to a friend or neighbor unless you are
positive they know the dog well, already love your Samoyed, are well
aware of the special needs and requirements of our breed and your dog
and know that they are making a life long commitment to the dog. If you
decide to place your Samoyed with someone you know, please give them
NSR’s contact information.
If they have questions about the breed or if things do not
work out, they can contact us. We have had numerous Samoyeds
come into rescue because of this exact situation.
Please, do NOT advertise in the paper or any of the internet lists.
There are too many people out there who get dogs for all the wrong
reasons and you have no way to check them out. There are also too many
people who “shop” these lists for free to a good home ads or cheap dogs
who will turn around and sell your dog to brokers or into research.
For Samoyed’s Sake
Please, give your Samoyed the best possible chance
at a new life with a family who will love and treasure it for the rest
of its life. A family or individual who will love your Samoyed as do
you. Love your Samoyed enough to do what is best for it. We know it’s
probably one of the hardest things you will ever have to do but you will
be able to sleep at night knowing
your Samoyed is safe, happy and much loved.
